VA-MD College of Veterinary Medicine | Building 146 Lab Suite Renovation
About
5 Design collaborated with over 20 faculty and administrative stakeholders at the VA-MD College of Veterinary Medicine to shape the renovation of spaces within Building 146 on the Blacksburg campus. The project involved transforming 11 existing research labs into 2 large BSL-2 research labs, along with 8 support spaces, a refrigeration room, and a student lounge. To ensure maximum flexibility, 5 Design and its consultants worked closely with the lab furniture and equipment supplier, integrating a range of stakeholder input into the final design.
The project emphasizes transparency within the lab spaces and student lounge, incorporating safety features such as negative pressure monitoring and automatic sliding doors. 5 Design also collaborated with TK-CI, who provided interior design expertise, resulting in a modern, functional space that meets the diverse needs of the College.
